| How often do I have to replace the cartridges? |
| The replacement of cartridges will vary depending on the local water quality being filtered. The poorer the local water quality, the harder the filter will have to work to reduce impurities in the water, therefore requiring a more constant changeover. If, however local water quality is good, there will be a longer timeframe to change over the filters.

| How do I know when to replace my cartridges? |
When the filters are coming to the end of their lifespan, the flow of water coming out of the tap will be affected. An indication that it is time to change your water filter is when the water flow coming out of the tap slows, until it will eventually stop when the filters life has run its course. If you have registered your Warranty Details with Stiebel Eltron then we will send you a warm reminder to replace your cartridges after 12 months.
| How do I order my replacement filters? |
| Replacement filters can be purchased in-store from where you purchased the original water filter unit.
| If one cartridge needs replacing, can I still use the filter even though it’s missing that cartridge? |
If one or all the filter cartridges have run out and need replacing, the filter tap will stop producing water until a replacement filter is connected. Furthermore, if one of the cartridges is taken out of its cradle, the filter tap will again stop the flow of water. To ensure the water filter is working properly, please ensure that all filters are correctly inserted into their corresponding cradles and have not come to the end of their lifespan.

| Is the filter connected to my main sink tap? |
| No, the ‘Stream’ water filter comes complete with a specific tap to work separately from your main sink tap. This tap must be installed specifically with this unit to ensure it works properly. Installation of the unit is quick and easy and will ensure that this separate filter tap provides cold, fresh filtered water while the other sink tap can be used for all other water needs.
| Can I filter Hot Water? |
| No, as this water filter will run as a separate tap it will not filter hot water.
| Can I use it with my pumped water tank? |
Yes, the ‘Stream’ water filter can be used with pumped tank water. Our water filter will ensure that consumers can be assured they are drinking cleaner water.
| Can I install this unit by myself? |
| We recommend that our water filter units be installed by a licensed plumber. The unit will be simple to install for a plumber and should take them no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
| We have high levels of chlorine content in our water, does the stream filter work against this? |
| Yes, our yellow filter cartridge is an activated carbon block filter which is used to reduce the levels of chlorine in the water. The cartridge comes standard in our 3-stage and 4-stage filters. In areas where chlorine levels a high, we would recommend our 4 stage unit.

| How has your filter been tested? |
| The Stiebel Eltron ‘Stream’ water filter has been tested and been awarded a WaterMark certification. The WaterMark is a certification trademark used in relation to water supply, sewage, plumbing and drainage goods. Australian consumers can be confident about the quality of plumbing products and drainage products certified with the Watermark. Watermark certified goods comply with present regulatory position to meet required specification and standards. For more information on the WaterMark certification, please visit http://www.watermark.standards.org.au/default.asp . Please note that if you install a non-watermarked filter, you may void your building insurance if an accident occurs.

| How does the Stream filter system compare with a reverse osmosis filter system? |
| Reverse osmosis is an alternative filtration process that is often used for water. It works by using pressure to force a solution through a membrane, retaining the solute on one side and allowing the pure solvent to pass to the other side. This process can requires a tank to store the water and can waste a lot of water over its lifespan. Furthermore by having the water stored in a tank, there is a strong likelihood of bacteria growth in the tank, affecting the quality of water. Finally reverse osmosis system requires high maintenance costs and due to the fact it requires electricity to run, it will increase users energy bills as well.

| How does the Stream filter system compare with an ultraviolet filter system? |
Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection uses a UV light source, which is enclosed in a transparent protective sleeve. It is mounted so that water can pass through a flow chamber, and UV rays are admitted and absorbed into the stream. When ultraviolet energy is absorbed by the reproductive mechanisms of bacteria and viruses, the genetic material (DNA/RNA) is rearranged and they can no longer reproduce. This system has proven to be an unsafe and unreliable bacteria treatment as bacteria can hide behind sediments and particles. Furthermore UV is not a filtration process, while the process will kill or paralyze the bacteria, it will still remain in the drinking water. The lifetime of the UV lamp required for this filtering process can also be unpredictable and may require constant maintenance. Finally, as with the reverse osmosis filtration system, the UV filter system requires high maintenance cost and it also requires electricity to run again increasing their energy bills.

| How does this water filter help me save money? |
Currently, the average price for bottled water is $2.53* a litre against our ‘Stream’ water filter which provides water for about 3-4 cents a litre. Bottled water, often attractively described as ‘pristine’, ‘pure’, ‘clean’ and even ‘organic’ in marketing, is between 240-10,000 times more expensive than tap water - more than is paid for petrol, even though approximately 25% of bottled water has been sourced directly from municipal tapwater systems. Over 90% of the cost of bottled water is associated with the bottle, lid and label. By making a switch from bottled water to filtered tap water, you can not only save money, but also have a significant impact on the environment. Some other facts about bottled water include;
· Australians spend more than half a billion dollars a year on bottled water. Last year, the sale of bottled water increased by 10 percent.
· Producing and delivering a litre of bottled water can emit hundreds of times more greenhouse gases than a litre of tap water.
· According to British research, drinking one bottle of water has the same environmental impact as driving a car for a kilometre.
· In many cases, a litre of bottled water is more expensive than a litre of petrol.
· Department of Environment and Climate Change estimates that 200ml of oil is used to produce, package, transport and refrigerate each litre bottle of bottled water. As a result, at least 50 million litres of oil is used in the manufacture and distribution of bottled water in Australia every year.
· Australia recycles only 36% of PET plastic drink bottles.
· Australia’s annual use of bottled water generates more than 60,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions - the same amount that 13,000 cars generate over the course of a year.
